Frequently Asked Questions for New Voters

Can I vote?

You can only vote in elections if your name is on the Register of Electors.  Each year in the Autumn, the Council sends a registration form to your home which, by law, must be completed and returned to the Council.

To include your name on the form, you must be:

NOTE: 16 and 17 year olds should be included on the form (so that they can vote as soon as they become 18)

If you've just moved here or moved to a new address within the District, then during December to August you can re-register using the online form.  The register is updated monthly except during September to December when the new register is being prepared.

You should only register in one place.   If you are away at college, for example, it is either there or at home.
